I read about this method of finding full open access copies of research papers online and went ahead and installed it on my Chrome browser.

Here's a link to a blog about it:

      http://blogs.lse.ac.uk/impactofsocialsciences/2017/04/04/announcing-unpaywall-unlocking-openaccess-versions-of-paywalled-research-articles-as-you-browse/

It seems PubMed is also encouraging access

PubMed announced institutional repository LinkOut, which links every PubMed article to a free Green copy in institutional repositories, where available. This is huge, since PubMed is one of the world's most important portals to the research literature

So far this seems to be another way to get access to research, and I appreciate these efforts. I see the green tab when I look at abstracts, but I have actually only used it once. They are on Twitter @unpaywell

        Thanks Annette.

I've installed and used your first link, the Chrome add-on, to test it for the public. I've got academic privileges so can leap over paywalls, but my passion is for opening public access to the research they've paid for in tax dollars and participation as research subjects.

The Chrome add-on seems to work well whenever there is an open access version "out there" on the internet.

News about the PubMed "Green Tab" is so welcome.

        >>>Please PAN members, spread the word to those patient zealots whom you know who are trying to navigate the research evidence literature.

Many thanks to you, Annette, our illustrious PAN internet presence!

        Warmly, Carolyn

Not sure if this has been mentioned previously, but there is also another site doing similar called Open Access Button: https://openaccessbutton.org
