      Subject: CFHI CEO FORUM

      Hi ladies,

I just thought I would share some information about an event I am involved in on Wednesday. Thought some of our PAN members might be interested in checking it out.

I am going to be participating in the CFHI CEO Forum taking place on Wednesday June 21st. This year's theme is Palliative Care.

"Overarching goals for the CEO Forum, long regarded as a venue for senior health leaders to build relationships and expand networks, are to:

      • Enhance leadership capacity

      • Increase knowledge regarding innovative practices in healthcare that are ready for spread, and

      • Speed the spread of health system and care innovations that improve healthcare for Canadians.

Objectives for the 2017 Forum are to advance systems level improvement in how we approach and deliver palliative care by:

      • Identifying innovative practices in palliative care that are ready for future spread and/or scaling up to other organizations and jurisdictions, and

      • Providing a venue for senior leaders to connect and start to form coalitions of the willing to accelerate spread of proven or promising innovations."

Some of the presentations, including the opening Patient presenter, will be livestreamed at the following link:

A Patient/Family Perspective: Communicating for compassion
      Join this session ยป
In this session, Mrs. Penny Ericson, Patient Family Advisor, will discuss her experience with the healthcare system while she was caring for her husband before his death in 2013. Communication is the key to compassionate end-of-life care for patients and families. She will highlight that all the innovations featured at the Forum depend upon good communication skills, and will stress the importance of listening and effective communication within healthcare teams as well as with patients and families.
      Penny Ericson, Patient/Family Advisor

      Thanks,

      Angela

Had the opportunity to meet, "live-in-person", Angela Morin, at the CFHI CEO forum, yesterday. Thank you Angela for posting the information on how to connect with the event. I hope some of you were able to connect and hear the events that were live-streamed. They were up-lifting, opening up this topic that many people are reluctant to speak about due to either fear or, lack of knowledge.

It was very encouraging to see the number of CEO's interested in learning about innovations in Palliative Care. We have so many educational, informative initiatives to support, guide us through our many life's phases and milestones. Yesterday's information was like removing a mask to see, hear, learn about both demonstrated and emerging innovations which have provided "meaningful" experiences and results for patients and their families. Finally, clear knowledge and information on how to "normalize" this phase of life!

End of life is the "hardest" reality for everyone, acknowledged or, not. Having cared for my dad when he reached the last phase of his life, I want to share one of the innovations presented yesterday that I did not know was an innovation at the time I found it. I discovered it searching for resources to help me personally deal with losing dad and it enabled me assist my dad move peacefully through his palliative life phase. I heartily endorse these supportive web sites and encourage you to explore them for yourself and on behalf of your loved ones.

Great that you got to attend Denyse, and happy you sent the heads up Angela

My Saturday night reading has been Medical Assistance in Dying and Bill 87. You never know what you'll end up doing sometimes when you volunteer for things.
