About the Operating Room Black Box Project

The Operating Room Black Box will soon be installed in one operating room (OR) at The Ottawa Hospital. Similar to aviation, the OR Black Box records audio, visual, physiological, and environmental data. This new technology provides an unprecedented opportunity to improve surgical patient safety by learning from everyday practice in the OR.

Who we are looking for:

Patients and/or family caregivers to partner with our research team on a small panel. The panel will help to guide current and future research studies.

We would like to hear from you if you have:

• Team working skills

• Personal or close family experience with surgery

• Interested in enhancing the healthcare system

This panel will:

• Identify how the OR Black Box could be used to enhance patient safety from a patient perspective

• Contribute to research and grant development with insights from patient experience

• Help develop a public information campaign for the OR Black Box

Commitment:

Meetings will be held once or twice a month from November 2017- November 2018.

This is a voluntary position.

This is super interesting! I've been in contact with Antoine to see if I could get involved. I was awake during my surgery 3 weeks ago and it was interesting to observe though I realize this experience is not for everyone!
