U of T research project on CPSO/CNO complaint process. Kerri Scheer, PhD candidate is researching the ways in which the complaint and discipline process of these regulatory bodies impact health care delivery and health care professional conduct. As part of this research, she wants to capture the experience of Ontario doctors, nurses, and patients who are familiar with or have navigated the CPSO or CNO complaint process. In recruiting participants for this study, she welcomes and appreciates help of research in circulating the surveys to interested members and followers.

Thank you very much for your time and effort in considering my request to circulate this study!

I received a copy of the ethics approval for this if anyone wants to see it.

CPSO is the College Of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and CNO is the College of Nurses of Ontario.

All of te health professions in ON are regulated by their own College. They have the 'Privilege' of self regulation.

The doctors have the most issues and are often read about in the papers because sex abuse is more common ythan it should be, and the perception is that thier College is too easy on them.

The Minister has based new legislation to make it tougher for this to happen. It applies to every college. The Sex Abuse Task Force Report, done by Marilou McPhedran was the basis for the changes.

The College is separate from the association eg the Ontario Medical Association advocates for the doctors , while the College regulates, and makes them keep up their education standards.

The Minister also has plans to add more public members to the Councils. I am well informed because I am a public member of the Council of the College of Occupational Therapists.

More patients should join these public boards and Colleges. The Public Appointments Secretariat is where people apply in this province. The other public members are all professionals of many types, and a fair number are men.

I would describe myself as the only "patient" in this position - that is so wrong in my opinion. They offer a per diem + prep time is paid, as if hotel, food and transportation if you live out of town

It's a great way to learn more about governance - thhey are quite scrupulous about the precedures and the over-riding duty of public protection

Hey, Annette. Help me unpack these acronyms. Thanks. Not being from Ontario might be my handicap but I’m interested in learning about what you are doing. Cheers, Carolyn
