      Hello PAN community members!

PAN is excited to be one of the collaborating organizations on an initiative led by Dr. Hsien Seow, researcher from McMaster University. Dr. Seow is leading a national grant process which focuses on improving the caregiver experience across Canada.

Right now, Dr. Seow and his team are reaching out to invite family caregivers to participate on a panel in this grant. For more details, please see the Invitation to Participate below. If you are interested in participating in this initiative, you may reply directly to the email listed at the end of the Invitation to participate.

      PAN Communications team

      Invitation to participate

We are recruiting a panel of family caregivers who are passionate about improving the experience for other caregivers across Canada to join a grant as a co-applicant/investigator.

What kind of caregiver: We are looking for a variety of caregivers with past or present experience caregiving for those with serious life-limiting illness. Good candidates may have experience in serving on local/provincial/national committees related to caregiver issues. Others may have an active social media presence related to health care/caregiving (e.g. blog, website, member of an organization) Caregivers with broad connections to peers are especially encouraged to apply.

The grant idea: Dr. Hsien Seow is a researcher from McMaster University (bio link). He is leading a national grant focused on improving the experience of caregivers across Canada. The goal is to create change through a social movement for caregivers, by caregivers. The grant’s objective is to develop a national agenda of caregiver priorities, to co-design and adapt solutions with caregivers, and to enact large-scale change through a caregiver social movement. More information about the grant can be found HERE.

Involvement: Caregiver co-applicants will work alongside researchers to provide advice and expertise on how to achieve the grant’s objectives. This includes strategic advice on how to reach diverse caregivers, support ongoing engagement, and co-design solutions effectively. We are recruiting an equal number of caregivers and academic co-applicants/investigators to form the team.

Commitment: Expected time commitment is to participate in 4 meetings a year (estimate of 24-30 hrs per year); one meeting is funded as face-to-face, if available; the others are virtual. We will offer an honorarium, according to National guidelines (e.g. SPOR), to recognize caregiver contributions and the time commitment involved. Travel costs to participate in meetings will be covered.

Next steps if you are interested: Email Maggie Civak (civak@hhsc.ca) by Friday February 14 with your interest.
