      The Ontario SPOR SUPPORT Unit is seeking patient/public leaders to join its Board of Directors

      Who we are: The Ontario SPOR SUPPORT Unit (OSSU) is an independent not-for-profit corporation jointly funded by the Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR) and the Government of Ontario to promote and support patient oriented research (POR) in Ontario. OSSU's overall mandate is to help health research evidence inform better health policies and care for Ontarians. Over the past 7 years, OSSU has invested over $65 million to support POR through Ontario-based health research centres, networking and collaboration building, and training. Central to all of OSSU's activities is the importance of meaningful partnerships with patients and care givers throughout the research process. You can learn more about OSSU at www.ossu.ca.

      In order to help lead OSSU over the next 5 years, the OSSU Board of Directors is expanding to include additional patient and public partner members.

      What we are looking for: The nine-member volunteer Board serves to provide strategic advice and direction to OSSU in support of its overall mandate and to ensure that it fulfills its program, financial and performance reporting obligations to CIHR and the Province of Ontario. Central to OSSU mandate is the engagement of patients and other key stakeholders in research in order to ensure that patient and community priorities are at the forefront of health and health services research. To better achieve this, OSSU will be adding new members to the Board that reflect Ontario's ethnic and geographic diversity. In particular, we are looking to add committed and engaged individuals to fill the following roles on the Board:

      • Patient and/or caregiver representatives experienced in patient engagement/partnership in health and/or health services research;

      • Patient and/or caregiver advocates for patient engagement/partnership in health and/or health services research;

      • Indigenous community representative interested in health and/or health services research; and,

      • Francophone community representative interested in health and/or health services research
