The CAPTIC Research Program, based out of St. Michael's Hospital, Unity Health Toronto is working to improve the consenting process to ICU research for patients and other participants involved in this process. As part of the research, the team is looking for patients/caregivers who can provide their experience and feedback on the prototypes being developed. These prototypes are digital or paper-based documents.

Having a diverse range of voices, backgrounds and experiences at the table can help the team to design a solution that is more inclusive and useful to a broader population.

The team is looking specifically for patients/caregivers with the following experience:

      • Been an ICU patient or
      • Been admitted to the ICU for COVID-19 or
      • Cared for someone that has been an ICU patient
      • Has enough English fluency to be able to participate fully in feedback activities (e.g. reviewing written materials and providing clear written/verbal feedback in English)
      • Is able to review digital documents (e.g. PDFs)
      • Is able to participate via Zoom (i.e. either knows how to operate the software themselves or has someone who can help them get onto the Zoom calls and help with troubleshooting if the patient/caregiver is struggling with the technology)

Patients/caregivers who join will be provided with an honorarium. The time commitment would be approximately 4-6 hours in total over 2 working sessions between now and end of April. Due to the pandemic, all participation will be remote (i.e. over the phone or on Zoom). For more information and to apply, you can go to https://www.captic.ca/patient-engagement.
