Join online CIHR Scientific Director Rick Glazier and patient partner Lisa Ridgway (PAN member!) March 3 & March 11

Limited capacity in-person March 3 in Vancouver, details below

      A MESSAGE FROM CIHR...

Calling on patients and the public, you’re invited!

To be part of developing a 5-year strategic plan for

CIHR’s Institute of Health Services & Policy Research

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)’s Institute of Health Services and Policy
Research (IHSPR), in partnership with the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research
(MSFHR) and the British Columbia Academic Health Science Network (BC AHSN), invite you to
engage on future directions and priorities for health services and policy research in Canada.

The CIHR Institute of Health Services and Policy Research is developing its next five-year
strategic plan. A key component of our stakeholder engagement is to include opportunities for
patients and the public to tell us their opinions about the current needs, gaps, and
opportunities for health services and policy research. This will help us to determine strategic
directions and research priorities that will support the health services and policy research
community to tackle the most serious challenges facing our health care system.

Patients and the public are key CIHR-IHSPR stakeholders, so we would like to invite you to
join us for a two-part engagement opportunity:

Part 1 - One-hour information session to learn more about CIHR-IHSPR

I received an email about this opportunity from Jessica Nadigel explaining these 2 events (see below):

As you know, we are consulting across the country on our strategic plan. We are heading to BC in a few weeks and I have been working with two BC patient partners, Colleen McGavin and Lisa Rigway to develop what initially was a BC-specific patient and public engagement opportunity. We have been working hard at getting the word out and we have decided to open this opportunity up for all patients and the public across the country to join the webinars remotely.

You will see in the attached documents, we have set up two webinars (the first to set the stage and tell everyone about CIHR and IHSPR) and the second webinar for asking questions to help understand the types of priorities Canadians want to see in terms of health services and policy research. We also have an online engagement platform (through the BC SUPPORT Unit) and we are sharing our survey (which from the responses to date, 33% come from patients and the public).

I was hoping that you could help us spread the word through your networks. Attached you will find a detailed description of the various engagement opportunities as well as a one-pager shortened promo.

We are also planning similar activities for Ontario, but no dates have been set, so this is a great opportunity to have people get involved now!

          Hi there PAN members:

Its Lisa here, the moderator patient partner for this event!

I am a volunteer patient partner and I created this role as moderator because the discussion with Rick Glazier and CIHR / IHSPR should be as open as possible. I am trying to build capacity for patient partners! I don't like didactic presentations, even if its the way its done in the past doesn't mean we have to always follow the precedent (I know all about precedent from 20 years of legal practice). Colleen works for the BC SUPPORT Unit as Patient Engagement lead / employee.

I hope with my involvement as moderator will allow other patient partners to create impact too (and CIHR is covering my expenses).

Please sign up wherever you are in Canada! Lets have a strong voice together!
